Let’s get personal. The music industry is already full enough of empty promises, has beens, and broken dreams. Real talk. 99% of all of these problems are caused by one thing. Not following through. If you say you are going to do something at a certain time, then follow through. You’ve made the commitment. All you have to do is “Just Do It!” Nike by the way has the BEST slogan of all-time. I can’t tell you how many people say they are going to send in music to be put up on this website that don’t get around to it. I mean, honestly being busy with school and stuff, it takes me a while to get updates on the site. If you can’t send in music before I update then what makes you think that you will make it anywhere else? lol Seriously. The last update went up a month ago right before REMIX HOTEL. It takes all of 10 minutes to make a decent bio and 1 minute to send an email. Again I say. Just do it.
That’s just about commitments people have made to me and the site.
I’m not perfect either. I have a bunch of loose ends to tie up, but that’s a whole other article. Or rather article series. Something to remember though is that in most cases, it’s never too late to follow through. Then again if your at a Major and you blow it there then yeah it’s too late. At least there. Chances are though if you’re that big, then you already have the will to commit and complete.
It’s important though to not let the small things slip through the cracks either. Take this site for example. I’m only one person. You tell me you’re going to send in some music. Cool. You even call to let me know it’s comin’. I wait and wait. Nothing happens. You forgot, or your dog ate your music or whatever. The music never makes it in. 10-20 years later. Guess what. Your boy Jonesy here is CEO of his own Major Label. Sonic Melon Productions is at the top. You send in a demo. “Oh yeah, I remember this dude...” In the trash your demo goes. Sound far fetched? I’ve already decided that I’m going to be successful. So have some of the others that surround you in your musical endeavors. So why burn the bridges before the river even gets going? You have to finish what you start. You never know who will influence your career in the future. You just never know.
I hope that in this short column I instill something in you, and that is the need to finish what you start. Don’t forget it’s never too late in most cases to do this.
Alright, now that we are straight I should have about 15 demos in my email in a the next week. Right?
Peace.
